sorry to hear of your plight Amanda, I know how you feel, I now have ten cats of my own, ( all rescued) and feed 7 more of my french neighbours, he is in hospital terminally ill with cancer, and I guess that will just be an ongoing thing as I couldn't imagine just walking away from them and stopping feeding them, I get odd looks in the supermarket with my trolley half full of cat food every week! but I have come to terms with the way it is here, now. I have had stray cats knocked over by cars in my shed until recovered and lost hunting dogs in my chicken run, (yes I have chickens too, and have even had stray chickens turn up in my garden who have consequently joined the clan.) My vet gives me "special" rates as we are one of his best domestic customers,-he's great!- but like you, I have found that help with these animals in few and far between, If I had the money I would start an animal shelter as it is something we need more of,.........but for now I am a one man band but I still do the lottery in hope!

I know this is a pretty useless posting for you but I'd like you to know that your not alone and very good luck with your rehoming!

all the very best Weebs

ps do you know about the "Pill" for the mother cat? it's about 10 euros for 20 weeks worth, one tablet once a week just so you don't end up with more kittens before you find knew homes, they can have the pill for up to 2 years before being sterilized.

I would love to have the kittens, but hey, not possible as you cannot take them with you when you fancy a break, so I stick with just my lovely dog and his wonderful pet passport!!! Good luck with finding homes, but don't offend ppl with your title on the forum, most are animal lovers, but it all costs a lot of money and time etc.!!!!!!

The big problem is the amount of animals that remain unneutered. France has a large feral cat problem, our town is currently doing a round up and the cats will be destroyed. Owners of cats have been told to try to keep them in or put commars on them so that the catchers will release any animals that may have owners.

We have homed 6 cats ourselves - all have been neutered and 4 have died after 2 years from cat aids. We have also homed several other kittens found in barns and dumped on our doorstep.

At the end of the day there are just too many unwanted animals for whatever reason, and just not enough space in the homes willing to take them.

Try a refuge, put signs in the vets and supermarkets - you may be lucky and find someone who will take your felines.

Goodluck.

I know the cat population in France is a problem. We come from an Island and we had a problem until a group of kind animal lovers took it upon themselves to go out in the evening and catch feral cats and paid for them tobe neutered then released them back into the wild, in the end they became a registered charity which was brilliant and although it is not an instant way to deal with things in the long run it works.

At our local supermarkets they havecollection boxes near the tills and also a box for people to buy a tin of cat food whilst shopping and put it in the box, which is also a good way for the community to help.
