Voice Over Internet Protocol is a general
term for a family of transmission technologies for delivery of voice
comunications over ip networks. The internet is an ip network.
Telecoms providors are now using this technology to route calls from
the home and through the internet. However the internet is a digital
media and your telephone call is converted into a digital signal and
sent in packets of data, this is sometimes where there can be a problem
with voip, some of the packets of data get either lost or dropped and
you end up with a poor quality conversation.
There are a number of things that can go wrong, many of them outside of
the scope of your isp, for example a faulty router or switch.
One area that you can test is your line speed, a slow speed on a
supposed fast line would indicate that there a line quality issues.
What is your package speed with your isp? What does your line test at

We are so fed up with the high bills we have been getting with France Telecom that we are finally researching what is the best for us.
We have a phone line and computer, and lots of other people seem tobe offering a much better deal than France Telecom but are there systems as good.
We have noticed SFR have offered 29.90 a month with free calls and wi fi connection, is that what you are going with and I wonder what is the best provider at the best price.
