Bonjour, Can anyone recommend a good French bank, low charges and good interest rates on savings?
Merci

Hi.

I found Credit Agrigole in Niort wonderfully helpful when purchasing my property.

The Madame Bank Manager charming.

The paperwork was a little daunting....amount, and of course all in French, but I'm sure that would be par for the course with any lending institution.

Bon luck.

There is a lot less available in terms of savings accounts in France than in the UK: the livret A or Livret Bleu is limited to one per person and around 16 000 EUR - it pays a fixed pittance which is the same no matter who you bank with. For occasional good offers the internet banks like Ing are OK, but they only guarantee a good rate for a few months and then there is nowhere else to go when the rate drops as few banks do these offers, and they only tend to do them once or twice a year, and then only on "new" funds - you can't transfer money from an account you have with them to get a better rate. It's all pretty grim for the ordinary saver.
If you can tie your money up for eight years then you can get a better rate (because it becomes tax free, although you still have to pay national insurance on your interest), but even that fluctuates.

We're with Britline, the english speaking branch of Credit Agricole, they are very good and you e-mail or phone in English.

Bonne Chance

Credit Agricole although English speaking charge for lots of things - I have avoided them personally. Caisse D'Epargne charges were also quite high. I am with Societe generale - but if you can go for internet banking and your French is a good standard then fees and rates are good.
