I think I may have just bought a problem! Purchased an Audi 1.9tdi and when you accelerate it seems to hit a flat spot and throws out a lot of black smoke, I can't really afford to go to a garage so wondered if anybody might know what could be causing this and should I be worried : (
Thanks in advance |

It sounds like an injector problem, either the pump or an injector nozzle (or two). I advise biting the bullet and taking it to a dealer. This type of problem is NOT diy fixable unless you have the right test equipment and talent. Don't leave it as can cause failure of the CT and a possible fine for pollution. Unfortunately modern cars do not lend themselves to home servicing. The VAG tdi is an excellent engine but it does demand specialist care.

My Peugeot Hdi chuck out black stuff now and then. I use some diesel injector cleaner with every 4th tank of fuel. Also, don't continually fill up with cheap supermarket diesel - chuck in some quality stuff every few tanks as it will contain more detergents which will help clean the engine.
Might be worth getting the flat spot checked out - could be any number of things with modern diesels - dodgy injector, faulty turbo, hole in one of many pipes. Make a note of the engine speed when you hit the flatspot - it'll help diagnose the problem.
How old is the car...? |
