Cars, Bikes & Driving

Warning. Beware

sammygee writes in Cars, Bikes & Driving

My husband was on the Confolens/Pressac road at approx 2pm today by the Bungalow that is surrounded by water and is in the process of being "done up". There were 2 cars in the "layby" and a man was waving his hands for my husband to slow down. He "explained" that he had run "out of fuel" and took off his "hallmarked" ring and a chain from his neck in "exchange" for 20 euros for fuel.He wanted money asap?! He said that he was from "Hungary" and could speak English, no problem!? When he said he was from Budapest, he did not pronounce it properly so my husband said that IF you ARE from there you would say it the right way! He then said to my husband where do you live and what do you do for a living. My quick thinking husband said he lives in England and is a Policeman! With that both the man AND the cars rapidly left the "scene"!!!!!!!! Make sure that any of you are not caught out like that as he was very plausable. Please take care!!!!!!!!!!!

Ps. One car was Silver, possibly similar to a Renault Laguna and the Black one was similar to a Citroen Picasso.

That is the oldest trick in the book he is trying to sell you a 1.99 fake piece of crap for 20 euros..... anyone who stops and helps them deserves to be ripped off....... simple answer dont stop for anyone who is not a policeman in a car or with a car

carry a camera(best digital)so you can instantly show the police,or post it for other members of the forum, take down the reg plate(for the police),if your being chased, followed, drive if you have fuel to a bigish village and follows signs to the police station, and like the man said,DONT be a good samaritan and stop,it'll only end in tears(all yours),thanks for the post.

Someone near that part of the road tried to flag me down about a year ago - the car (on Romanian plates) was parked on the hard shoulder near the restaurant "Le Chalet" going towards Civray. Just carried on driving...
