Cancelling Phone Expat

SusieK writes in General

After four years of fighting with France Telecom, we have managed to get them to give us a Livebox, with free phone calls.
During the battle we've had our phone calls routed through Phone Expat.
Now that we have the Livebox, how do I stop our calls passing via Phone Expat, please? Or will they now go automatically through FT?

I can't imagine why anyone would willingly want the infamous "Deadbox", but if you want an answer to your question why not speak to PhoneExpat, They speak English and are always so helpful.

Thanks. The reason I want a Livebox is that until now we have had to pay for FT line rental, Orange Internet, and all our calls. It's a money-saving measure. ;)

SusieK, we used Phonexpat for a while and had nothing but trouble with them, moving to Orange with calls via the Livebox was the best thing we did.The Livebox2 is much better than the old version, remember to unplug it from the mains and the phone line if there are thunderstorms around as they can be susceptible to storm damage, but this can be said for most electrical items and computers anyway.I'm pretty sure that as soon as your telephone service is activated and your calls are made via the Livebox, the Phonexpat service will cease as this is linked to your fixed line.To be on the safe side write to them and cancel the service and get written confirmation. Then phone Orange and ensure that it has been cancelled.

Thanks so much for your reply and advice.
I have to say that we have had no problems at all with Phone Expat and been happy with their service, but we used it because for four years France Telecom insisted that we "didn't qualify" for a Livebox, unlike all our neighbours. Now, apparently, we do, so can benefit from free phone calls. We are keeping our landline, however, not quite sure why, they did explain it but I've forgotten the explanation. :) It's all included in the new subscription. I've emailed Phone Expat to ask them if I need to do anything to stop our calls routing through them.

Susie, if you keep a working landline I'm sure that FT will bill you the 16 odd Euros for the line rental. With the Livebox packages you don't get charged a line rental, although you still have to connect your Livebox into the phone wall socket.Unless you are not in a "zone degroupe",in which case you will still need to pay a rental on your fixed line. What package have they offered you?You can check if you are in a zone degroupe here-http://www.degrouptest.com/

France Telecom assured me that the package we have, which is Optimal Internet, included free calls even though we retain the fixed line. We are on extended broadband as we are just outside the range of the transmitter thingy, and I think that was something to do with it. The bump says:

"Vous venez de souscrire à « OPTIMALE INTERNET » et nous vous en remercions. Cette offre vous permet d’appeler en illimité tous les téléphones fixes de France et de plus de 100 destinations à l’international.

L’activation de vos appels illimités sera effective sous un délai de 5 jours. En attendant, vos communications sont facturées au tarif aujourd’hui en vigueur sur votre ligne.

Pour profiter pleinement de votre offre, vous devez utiliser votre téléphone classique raccordé directement à votre prise murale."
