Dishwasher problem

Somthinggoingon writes in General

Wonder if anyone can advise me! please

I have a relatively new Philips Whirlpool dishwasher naturally out of guarantee less than 3 years old always worked beautifully but the last few weeks when I open it after a wash every other 2 or 3 plates are encrusted with food and the mugs and glasses are not sparkling clear and feel like they have a fine gritty feel
I take care of my machine it has been dosed with salt I have changed to a more upmarket product (makes no difference!!) and use rinse aid - my son has looked at it too and jiggered it about - I think it seems to be more noticeable on the right side

Typically out of guarantee now but wondering if it could be a problem with the rinse propellers - how would I get them out e even???"!!! Also could any blockages in pipewok have any effect on a dishwasher maybe as I have noticed when my sink empties it sort of makes a lot of gurgling noises but as we are close to a river and have fosse worried about pouring dangerous products down

I am really getting fed up half emptying and washing up by hand half the contents each time!!!

Please any suggestions or ayone had similar relucant to call washing machine man in case something I could sort myself

Any good advice most appreciated!!

Hi, we moved into a new house in the last few months and bought a new dishwasher and had similar problems to you. At first I thought it was the machine itself and the fact that our house is upwards from the water meter thing and maybe there wasn't enough water pressure. Or the tablets I was using so changed to powder - in the end it turned out to be the fact that the filter thing wasn't properly fastened down in its slot and had a small gap and once I'd put this in as it should be everything worked perfectly. Hopefully your problem is something as simple as that. Good luck

Remove the two sprayer bars ( usually held in by two plastic 'tongues' that you squeeze together to lift them out.Soak them overnight in water and vinegar to remove any linescale. Remove the filters in the bottom of the machine and clean them thoroughly. Put everything back together then buy a dishwasher cleaner, preferably a good make and run this through the machine as per the instructions. This should solve the problem.

Regards, Ray.

Hello and thanks for the 2 replies with advice

Having tried lots of other things including changing the product, checking salt always putting in rinse aid etc took out the rinse arms as suggested gave them a good clean although they did not look mucky maybe it was all inside and this morning the wash was almost back to normal - there were 3 big plates still with food all stuck on so dont understand that at all! all the rest was fine and the glasses were all sparkly again!!

Thanks

Have a look if any of the small sprayer nozzles is blocked, a grain of rice can already make all the difference. The nozzles are in the propellors, use a cocktail stick to clean them. Once in a while let the machine do a full program with some white vinager, this will eliminate the grease.

Based on my experience of maintaining my wife's machine the problem is almost certainly blocked sprayer arm nozzles as suggested by moutonrouge above. The problem is getting whatever is stuck in the arm out, otherwise it will re-block the nozzle soon after the machine is put back into service. It is easy to unblock the nozzles but getting the offending matter out of the arm completely is more difficult and usually involves lots of water and getting a little wet! Occasionally you can pull the blockage out with a needle.
