Fly screens

goodfriend writes in Home & Garden

Bonjour

Please could anyone give me advice on fitting the flyscreens that are sold in tha hardware stores;

Do they fit inside to the window frame or outside? do they have to be taken down to close the windows?

Please excuse my ignorance but the instructions in the box don't seem to give much advice.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Regards, Marjorie.

Providing your windows open inwards and you have a deep window sill the cheapest method is to build a frame and staple fly meshing onto it, my late husband did that when we arrived in 2002. We bought the mesh from Bricomarche and it lasted until 2010 when it needed replacing. I bought another couple of metres per window and stapled it onto the original frames he'd made.

Hope this helps

The frames fit to the outside of the windows and can be cut to fit. The roller blind fits within this frame. Your window opens inwards and the roller fly blind is on the outside and can be rolled up or down as needed. Hope this helps - we find them very practical.

Ooops! Didn't think that you might mean the ones that fit on to velcro. The velcro goes on the outside and the mesh is pressed into it. These last one season, two at the outside and then the sticky-backed velcro comes un-stuck. Again as they are fitted to the outside you do not need to take them down to open / close window.
