Some friends (who live in UK) have offered to take my husband and me out for a meal to celebrate his 60th birthday. Obviously we want something rather special but as I do not know their budget, not horrendously expensive. We have been to Le Scorllion and the Cheval Blanc at Luxe. We do not want to go as far as La Rochelle because we will be collecting them from the airport the day before! I have heard mixed reviews about Le Moulin des Saules so any suggestions greatly appreciated. It will probably be for a Sunday lunch as I think most places are shut on Sunday evenings and Mondays and within an hours drive of Aulnay.

We went to Le Moulin des Saules for my birthday in May and it was excellent. Brilliant meal in brilliant surroundings, no I couldn't fault it. I'm interested to hear the negative comments you've heard about it.

Hello, 2 new ones in Cognac either side of the Charente bridge and both open 7 days per week.The Lascala on the old town side is styled as a sort of Italian bistro and very buzzy, Eaten there once and was pleasantly surprised but you need to like Italian food .

The L'Atellier on the St Jacque side looks very nice as does it's carte but haven't tried it yet.
