Dental Work

MoniqueMichelle writes in Health, Fitness & Beauty

I got a real shock yesterday! My dentist removed a cap from one of my teeth because an infection had started up underneath it. She took the cap off and removed the decayed portions from the tooth underneath and said she would re-cap it on the next visit and gave me another RDV for next Thursday. Sounded good - and before I left she gave me a devis for 3 different qualities of cap to choose from ---- well, I nearly collapsed on the surgery flooor!! ----- the prices ranged from 1,800 euros for the cheapest, to nearly 2,300 euros!!!

There is no way that I could afford even the cheapest, so I'm going to ask her to put on a temporary cap and hope that it lasts until I can find the funds.

Then when I got home, I got googling on the internet and see that in the UK, under the NHS, it costs £195 for up to 10 caps!! - I know that I'm not entitled to go via the NHS because I live in france, but has anyone else even gone to the UK for private dental treatment and have any idea of the fees, compared to france?

Best bet is to try another dentist here for a devis. I had a cap done last year & I thought the 600 euros was expensive !

That seems ridiculously high - it is high in France...my husband had one for 600E and you only get around 70E back from the CPAM, so you need good Complimentaire - but 1800-2300 is just silly money!

Hope you find a decent alternative

I forgot to say that I did tell her that I wanted a 'white' cap, because it is visible when I talk - I know that these are more expensive, but...

Do you think that it would be worth going to the UK to get it done?

Mine was a front tooth so was white. I think you will find ,if you google it they are between 600 - 1000 pounds in England privately so probably best to get it done here.
