Hip dysplasia

Patricia Evans writes in Pets & Animals

Our five year old Springer has just been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. I have taken all the vet's advice on board (weight control, swimming, not too much walking when it is painful) but any tips anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

i would strongly reccommend a glucosamin/chondroitin ( and most importantly) Hyaluronic Acid supplement. It works. if you would like anymore info feel free to email me.

Hello - I have a lab who is now 9 who was diagnosed with this problem a number of years ago - his are very bad and there was talk at one stage of hip replacements. The vet in the UK used to give me synoquin which is a glucosamine and chondroiten supplement and this has been brilliant. I now give it to my other lab who has just been diagnosed as well. I really can't praise this enough and it now no longer needs a prescription. I buy it over the internet. The older one also used to go for hydrotherapy in the UK. I have also pm'd you with my phone number if you want to ask any questions. Good luck.

Thanks for all the advice. Carrie started limping this morning and couldn't put her back foot to the ground for very long. She was diagnosed this afternoon and given an anti-inflammatory injection and dietary supplements and just now she came with her ball for a game of football. I would appreciate some advice about walking, etc., as she normally has three walks a day totalling about 2 hours in all. The vet said to encourage her to swim, which is not difficult!

Patricia I'd recommend the Synoquin too, as with the hydro. Hope it helps.
