The INFO pages have a Forex converter for various currencies, but it gives the 'headline' rate which is useless as it cannot be achieved..

We use C**ton FastPay to transfer from sterling to euros. Anyone know a company which gives consistently good rates?

We always use HIFX, good rates, and really easy to do the transfer, you can watch the rate online and trade online when you decide it is a good time. they are also very quick sending the money to our french bank account....

www.xe.com give better rates than HIFX online on sums of £1000 - £3000, but HIFX may be better on higher amounts. Xe.com charge no commission and the money arrives within the next 2 working days.

IFX give astoundingly good rates and you can negoiate with them for even better rates. I get 30 points on the price so if FOREX shows 1.2530 I get 1.25 There is a ten pound fee but for larger sums they are the best we found after months of looking. Transfer is instantaneous!!!!

HIFX are very good.

Just 10 minutes ago (15.45 UK) the rates were (big boys and bankers)....€ 1.2706 to the pound.

While us poverty stricken peasants could get € 1.2400 to the pound at best.

If you are changing more than £10,000 you should get better than € 1.2600 to the pound.

But again, us (Tesco/Post Office/Thomsons/Thomas Cook) wallahs, (buying less than £10,000), will have to make do with around € 1.2400 to the pound....still good though

Have a look at currencyfair.com - At the moment their rate is 1.265. Very easy to sign up and always a good rate. This is for small or large sums and they only charge 3 euros for transfer

Currency Direct has worked very well for me. I chk the price between bank & two FOREX each month and CD have consistently worked out well (and no charge).
