Anyone installed a new phone line recently?

mayflower writes in Home & Garden

Hi, have bought a house without a phone line (since 1970s !)..... anyone know what it will cost to get a line? Although there are wires on the wall we're 100m from a main road and no wires coming to the house anymore. Is it right Orange are now france telecom? I hate orange.....had loads of trouble with their internet/customer service over the years. Any advice/experience most welcome.Want internet but desperate to avoid orange.

Try using a company called ALSATIS.  You will find them online & no line required !

Hi im sorry you will have to use france telecom to get your line first , then once you are connected change to another provider, they have an english speaking line so no problems speaking to themalso its better if you know name of last owner ,hope you get sorted

Found a company called UK Telecom.....they sort it all out so i don't have to deal with Orange ! Then i pay about the same as i would anyway. Thanks for the replies

Be careful with UK Telecom. I had a friend in a similar position and UK telecom tried to charge them €125 to get Orange to put in a landline, which Orange then quoted over €2000 to put in underground. I went direct to orange on my friends' behalf and came away with a quote for the same work for just under €1600.

We had orange put us a line into our house in April it cost 69€ but got a discount dont know why in the end it cost 44€. But we had got a pole in the hamlet which they could run the line from, we were told it had to be underground but when the techician came he just put it to the pole to our house the pole is  33 metres away from the house. Had no probs with orange infact found the English help line very helpful. We had Alsatis before and was not happy at all. Hope this helps you decide.
