A Time for Every Season
The weekend coming - the last weekend of
October - sees the official end of Summer Time (or Daylight Savings
Time) in France and throughout the European Union - and, in fact, much
of the rest of those parts of the world that practise daylight saving.
Fall back, Spring forward
This means that in the small hours of
Sunday morning, 28 October, the clocks will go BACK by one hour. The
mornings will be lighter from next week, but the evenings will really
start to "draw in" - time to get the fire blazing and some
chestnuts roasting, perhaps?
For more on Summer Time (and a handy table
listing the dates on which other countries change their clocks -
invaluable if you're doing cross-border business) see AngloINFO's
INFOrmation Page on Daylight
Savings Time.
Be aware that many modern electrical
appliances (satellite receiver boxes and computers, for example) will
automatically update themselves - there's no need to change them
manually. Older and simpler equipment, however, will need to be set back
by one hour.
