Lost For WordsCommunicating effectively is empowering. When your skills with a language are equivalent to those of a young child, it's easy to feel frustrated when you try to make yourself understood. And if you're prevented from communicating in an adult way, it can be very hard indeed to get things done. But you can fix this! Empower yourselfThere are many ways to learn French as a foreigner: total immersion, where you live and breathe the language for a fixed period; group or individual lessons; or "distance learning" where you work one-on-one with your teacher by telephone and e-mail (very convenient if you are unable to attend regular classes). Take the first step by taking a look in The AngloFILE, AngloINFO's directory of local English-speaking businesses and organisations for French Lessons & Language Schools. If you'd prefer to learn by yourself, or simply need to brush up on some aspects of the language, you'll find a selection of language guides and dictionaries in the Language section of the Bookshop. These can be bought online through Amazon.co.uk. If you don't feel you have the language skills right now to take on a discussion or prepare a letter, you can always employ the help of a professional - see the category Translators & Interpreters. Finally, most towns and villages across France have an Associations' Day early in September where all the local activity clubs and interest groups present their year's programme. Why not go along and join up to something that interests you? You're sure to find you'll quickly get over the language barrier. Featured Advertiser
